“How To” Grow Food

Sunday January 14th
10am-12pm
Then every month on a Sunday after, see all dates below
2hrs
£20 per session including hot soup and freshly baked bread

Growing food for the household is at the forefront of The Food Library’s aim & objectives. Everything that is grown is considered as an essential ingredient for the kitchen, providing taste and nutrition.

During these sessions run by Michael Mayhew from the Food Library we will look at the likes of –

*How much food can you grow yourself to feed a household and what tastes so much better than you can buy?
*What part of the season offers what foods?
*Are there ‘best’ foods to grow?
*How much space do you need and how much time?
*Do you need a garden or allotment?
*What can be grown in a flat?
*Recycling food waste, and other organic waste to make compost
*What are natural fertilisers & how to make them
*What is companion planting that will deter pests without chemicals?

This “How To” Workshop into growing your own food runs monthly throughout the year.

We will meet once a month at The Workshop for Sustainability, NN2 6PQ.

We will employ Kitchen Garden at the back of the workshop as an example of a food growing area.

This year-long rolling workshop will be an introduction to organic, and biodynamic practices.
Each month we will go through what needs to happen on a monthly basis and beyond. There will be time to use The Food Library book collection, stocked with many excellent books about growing artfully and sustainably.

Let’s ‘get out out out into the garden’ and grow the best flavoured food you will ever taste, plus transforming your garden into a haven for wildlife.

Where to start – bring a list of what you might want to grow in the year, an image of your potential growing area, photo, sketch, plan and a note book & pen.
