‘The 3 months that redefined me, why I needed to reset & eat a wild food diet.’

In 2023, Chef Alex McAllister-Lunt was invited to be part of a citizen science study that examined our health when eating a wild food diet.

The Wildbiome Project, led by Mo Wilde and joined by 26 members of The Association of Foragers, plus Tim Spector from The Zoe Project, there to provide the gut microbiome tests and monitor blood sugar levels for The Wildbiome Project.

The aim of this study was to eat only wild food for 3 months.

Wild food is defined as, pre-agricultural food, primarily those that can be foraged and caught. During the session Alex explores the idea of ‘rewilding’ your life and the impact of eating wild foods such as weeds, foraged herbs, wild vegetables, leaves, mushrooms, flowers, nuts and seeds, pheasant, squirrel, rabbit, venison, fish snails and seaweeds can have on the body and mind.

What happens to your health, your mental well being, your body, when eating only wild food?

Alex arrives to The Food Library to tell his story, opening up the opportunity to learn more about a wild diet through a talk, a foraging trip, a butchery demo, cooking demo, and culminating wild food dining experience.
